BNPB : Malaysian Hiker One of the Lombok Earthquake Victims

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that one Malaysian citizen identified as Isma Wida (30) adds to the death toll of the magnitude 6.4 SR earthquake that shook Lombok earlier today.

“The aftermath of the earthquake is expected to rise considering that the data collection is still going on and has not reached every region,” said BNPB Spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho in a written statement on Sunday, July 29.

Eight people died in the East Lombok regency with 10 severely injured, 10 people sustained minor injuries, and left dozens of houses in ruins. The Malaysian Isma Wida was one of the people that died at the region.

According to the information Tempo received, Isma succumbed to injuries after she was crushed by building ruins before departing for Mount Rinjani. Meanwhile, North Lombok reported two deaths and 13 injured who are now being treated in local medical facilities.

Reports also suggest that Mount Rinjani sustained massive landslide with earth materials heading towards the mountain’s northern side. The mountain’s official hiking route is currently closed.

The magnitude 6.4 SR earthquake shook areas in Lombok, Bali, and Sumbawa from 05:47 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). Up to 09:20 WIB, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that there has been 66 aftershocks.
