TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said three people died with dozens of houses damaged following the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that shook Lombok, Bali, and Sumbawa this morning at 05:47 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
“Three people died, 12 people were injured, and buildings were damaged. We are still collecting the data,” said BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho in a press release today.
According to Sutopo, the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) together with the National Armed Forces (TNI), Police, National Search and Rescue, SKPD, Indonesian Red Cross, and volunteers are still handling the emergency situation.
This has also caused Mount Rinjani’s hiking track to be temporarily closed after there were indications that there has been landslides.
“We are focusing on evacuation process and providing first aid. Several survivors were already sent to a local medical facility,” said Sutopo.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced that the earth quake is predicted to not cause a tsunami.
The earthquake was felt in North Lombok, East Lombok, Mataram, Central Lombok, West Sumbawa, Sumbawa Besar, Denpasar, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Karangasem, Singaraja, Gianyar, and several locations across Bali.
