TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) and the Indonesian Film Board (BPI) signed a memorandum of understanding with video-on-demand service provider Iflix to produce children and family films.

Bekraf head Triawan Munaf said the initiative consisted of five film projects that would be jointly developed and produced by Iflix, Bekraf, and BPI. The stores of the films will be adapted from songs that won the 2018 Children Songwriting Competition.

“The collaboration is in line with President Jokowi’s wish. He wants more national children-themed films,” he said at the launch of Iflix 3.0 in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 25.

Triawan said the first project that would be kicked off soon was the one adapted from a song entitled “This is My Holiday” written by Stephen Irianto Wally. Stephen was the winner of the competition. The film production is expected to start by the end of this year.

Bekraf, through the AKATARA program: 2018 Indonesian Film Financing Forum, invited young Indonesian filmmakers to submit a proposal to produce films based on four other songs.

The program aims to support the local film industry and to produce more children-themed films in the national cinema industry. The movies will be aired exclusively on the Iflix platform this year and in 2019.
