TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chairman of the Hanura Party Central Board (DPP) Inas Nasrullah explained the views of his party regarding the possibility of the Vice President Jusuf Kalla or JK to run as the vice presidential candidate. It is possible if the Constitutional Court granted a judicial review of the vice presidential position proposed by Perindo.

Inas said that Kalla should retire and no longer run as the vice presidential candidate in the 2019 Presidential Election. “JK should no longer pursuing a position,” he said on Wednesday, July 25.

Perindo Party filed a judicial review of Article 169 (N) of Law No. 7/2017 on General Election to the Constitutional Court on July 10. Perindo disputed the article, which is considered to limit the position of the vice presidential candidate for two periods, either consecutively or not. This lawsuit has been in the spotlight because Jusuf Kalla is included as a person related to the judicial review.

Kalla said he wanted to ask for an interpretation from the Constitutional Court judges. Because there are differences of opinion in the community regarding the working period of presidential and vice presidential. Some people consider the position of the president and vice president can be served more than twice as long as they are not consecutive.

According to Inas, it is time for Jusuf Kalla to give chances to the younger generation to appear in the national leadership. “So that the spirit of statehood is highlighted,” he said.
