TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Allegations of Russia`s interference in the 2016 US presidential elections became the main topic of discussion during a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The two heads of state met in Helsinki, Finland on Monday, July 16.
Trump said that Putin had an interesting idea on how to solve the problem, but the potus did not provide further details.
"I felt this was a message best delivered in person. Spent a great deal of time talking about it. And President Putin may very well want to address it, and very strongly, because he feels very strongly about it, and he has an interesting idea," Trump said in the joint press conference after the meeting.
Politico reported on Tuesday that Putin stressed Kremlin did not intervene the US 2016 elections. He even said he was “ready to analyze together” with Washington “any specific material” that may arise. He also suggested creating a joint cybersecurity working group.
Putin added he is willing to have U.S. investigators work with Kremlin in regards to 12 Russians who were indicted last week for hacking into Democrat computer systems in 2016.
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held a private, closed meeting for two hours. That meeting was followed by a bilateral meeting that included senior aides of the two nations.
