TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Frozen dew or frost phenomenon in several Indonesian regions was affected by the atmosphere. “The atmosphere which recently without clouds, really dry, and quite breeze at night is the most cause of frozen dew,” said a researcher at the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN) Bandung, Erma Yulihastin, Monday, July 9.
Similar in Dieng Plateau, Central Java, hikers and volunteers of Mount Gede Pangrango reported frost also occurred at Suryakencana Mount Gede on July 4-7, 2018, when the dry season began to start.
According to the climatology expert, it was occurred due to the atmosphere condition and radiation. The frost commonly happened particularly in the middle-latitude countries that experiencing four seasons.
“The frost is easily formed at night if the sky is clear, quiet and calm (without the breeze),” she added.
Aside from the clear sky and quiet breeze, the frost was created if the temperature of the land’s surface was below the freezing temperature of zero degrees Celcius.
Based on LAPAN observation from Himawari satellite and Sadewa Lapan on July 6-7, extreme dry in the atmosphere occurred in all Javanese regions. The decrease in the air temperature was influenced by the high pressure that was formed in Australia and also its contours were located in the south of Java. Besides, the phenomenon of clear sky in most regions of Indonesia was caused by a storm in the east of the Philippines.
Frozen dew or frost would not occur along the dry season. “But it’s part of weather anomalies that was formed as the effect of the winter season in Australia and the atmosphere of Indonesia,” she explained.
