TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno attended the 2018 World Cities Summit held at Marina Bays Sand, Singapore, since Monday.
On the sidelines of the conference, Sandiaga also held a bilateral meeting with the mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb. The meeting discussed the enhancement of sister city cooperation between Jakarta and Rotterdam in the field of water resources management.
The Jakarta-Rotterdam cooperation has long been done with the exchange of information and knowledge involving urban structuring, waste management, infrastructure development, and other issues.
“Our presence at the World Cities Summit will look for a form of collaboration among many cities in developing the concept of Smart City that can give birth to young entrepreneurs and provide jobs in the field of water resources management and economic improvement in Jakarta,” Sandiaga said in a press release on Monday, July 9, 2018.
Sandiaga Uno also met with Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Sandi discussed the creation of new quality employment with the concept of the smart and liveable city.
Sandiaga said the invitation to the 2018 World Cities Summit is fully utilized to make the people of Jakarta to be better and have a quality.
“First, we want to do the provision of jobs in Jakarta, jobs creation,” he said.
Sandiaga also wants an affordable cost of living for the community. Third, social and economic justice for society and the last is education. “These four pillars are our focus,” he said.
Sandiaga Uno attended the World Cities Summit for two days, until July 10. It is a biennial meeting as a platform for city stakeholders, experts, and industry to handle urban challenges, share solutions, and build partnerships to create sustainable development.
