Gerindra Yet to Decide Vice Presidential Candidate for Prabowo

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party Deputy Secretary General Andre Rosiade said it has not decided the vice presidential candidate who would accompany Prabowo Subianto in the 2019 presidential election.
“We are currently communicating with the coalition parties, with PKS, PAN and Democratic Party if they want to join us,” said Andre.
He denied that Prabowo has decided his candidate. Anies Baswedan, he said, is indeed included in the list of vice presidential candidates. But the decision must be in accordance with the coordination with the coalition.
Andre also confirmed that Gerindra has fully supported Prabowo as a presidential candidate. "If it also appears the name of Anies, he may enter as an option list of vice presidential candidate,” said Andre. He said that currently, Gerindra has not announced a single name for Prabowo.
Previously, the spokesperson of Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno, Anggawira, confirmed that Gerindra Chairman Prabowo Subianto has met Anies to discuss the 2019 presidential election. “If God allows, the coalition party has accepted Anies to propose as the vice presidential candidate for Pak Prabowo,” said Anggawira, Saturday, July 7.
Anggawira said Gerindra considered the contemporary issues developing in society about the 2019 presidential election. However, Anggawira said the formation would still be discussed more at the next meeting between Prabowo and the coalition party. While Anies, he said, is ready to accept whatever decision that will be generated by Prabowo and the coalition.
As is known, the 2019 presidential election will begin next August. Ahead of the registration period, Prabowo who is proposed by the Gerindra Party must determine his vice presidential candidate. In Alvara's survey, Anies Baswedan was declared as the most wanted public figure to accompany Prabowo, he was chosen by 60 percent of 2,203 respondents.
According to Anggawira, Anies is a figure that the community wants to accompany Prabowo in the 2019 presidential election because he is a bright young figure representing both Islamic and nationalist. “Pak Anies is a brilliant symbol of Islamic nationality today. Of course, Pak Prabowo understands that and bless it,” said Anggawira.
