TEMPO.CO, Paris - Indonesia will host the 5th Our Ocean Conference (OOC) in Bali on October 29-30. Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti expected the event will reaffirm the global commitment to overcome the coral reefs, that are severely damaged, through more concrete and sustainable cooperation.
“Coral reef ecosystem is one of the most important primary habitats for fisheries, tourism, beaches and climate change adaptation, and it is also vulnerable to marine pollution,” said Susi while delivering her speech during the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) event in Paris, France, Wednesday, July 4.

Minister Susi said the coral reef ecosystem will become the main discussion in the OCC 2018. She considered the forum can be a promotional event for coral reef conservation that has received strong attention and support from the United Nations through the resolution of UNTA 2/12 and Target Aichi (Target 10) on the reduction of coral reef degradation.
Susi assessed the OOC forum can also be a means of promotion for ICRI commitment to the world organization. Therefore, the minister invites the world leaders to attend the 2018 OOC.
“I invite the world leaders, heads of government, ministers, officials and civil society to participate and announce the action. We must show the world that we can do something to save the oceans,” said Susi Pudjiastuti.
“I would like to see a mutual commitment to make our seas as our heritage. I am waiting for your attendance in Bali,” she said.
