TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Maritime and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti expressed her appreciation following Indonesia`s appointment as a Joint Chairman member together with Monaco and Australia in running the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) Secretariat from
France.

“Representing the Indonesian government, I would like to express our enthusiasm to collaborate with Monaco and Australia as joint chairman members to run the ICRI secretariat and strengthen the collaboration and attempts to conserve and manage coral reefs, which also prevents the negative effects of the climate change and strengthen our coral reefs,” said Minister Susi Pudjiastuti during the joint chief handover ceremony, July 4.

Minister Susi asserted that Indonesia’s involvement in the ICRI is an ongoing engagement towards coral reef conservation and management. She further assessed that maintaining food security, people’s welfare, and maritime-related issues are Indonesia’s top commitment.

Furthermore, she explained that Indonesia has been conducting its efforts since the World Ocean Conference (WOC) and the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF) held in 2009.

“We are committed to ensuring the importance of coral reefs in providing resources and environmental services,” said the Maritime Affairs Minister.

Minister Susi Pudjiastuti assures that Indonesia’s commitment towards a collective partnership on environmental issues will not change and stay consistent as 2019 marks the tenth year since the CTI-CFF conference.
