SAR Team Found Rp30 Bn of Cash in Capsized KM Lestari Maju Boat

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Search and Rescue (SAR) team found Rp30 billion of cash in KM Lestari Maju boat that capsized in Pa`baddilang waters, Tuesday, July 3. The cash, aimed to pay the civil servants (ASN) of Selayar Islands, was brought by the passengers on the way to Bank Sulsel (South Sulawesi) Selayar.

“The money is packed neatly into seven sacks and is still guarded by two staffs of Bank Sulsel; they did not leave the ship,” said Andi Ridho, Member of Indonesia Unity Diving Sports Association (POSSI) who helped to evacuate, Wednesday, July 4.

According to Ridho, the Police personnel guided the evacuation of the cash after all the victims had been evacuated. “After all the victims on the ship evacuated to the land, we helped to evacuate the money of Bank Sulsel,” he explained.

A sweeping, conducted by a joint team from Basarnas, Police, TNI, PMII, POSSI and the locals, is still ongoing to find other victims who were possibly drifted and have not yet evacuated.

Selayar Police Chief Syamsu Ridwan said that currently, 35 people have died and 155 survivors have been affected by the KM Lestari Maju ship wreckage in Pa'baddilang waters. "All the dead victims have been evacuated," said the police chief.
