TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara stated the ministry has blocked a video-sharing application Tik Tok due to its negative contents for children. “We’ve called on Tik Tok developer to clean its contents,” said Rudiantara in a short message to Tempo on Tuesday, July 3.
The minister said he has coordinated with Women Empowerment and Children Protection Ministry and the National Commission for Child Protection (KPAI) on the matter and that the government would make approaches as of to the similar application, Bigo, earlier.
According to Rudiantara, dozens of Bigo staffs had cleaned negative music-videos contained in the application. “So, we re-open the site,” he said.
Rudiantara mentioned he actually appreciated the presence of the live streaming platform such as Tik Tok. “Such platform is good to express the creativity, but don’t use it for negative purposes,” he underlined.
Tik Tok, Rudiantara added, could be re-opened should the negative contents removed. “After it’s been cleaned and as long as the cleanliness can be guaranteed, we can allow the application,” he said.
