TEMPO.CO, Denpasar - The flight operational at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali is currently safe despite Mount Agung erupted again for three times today, July 2, at 06:19-06:55 local times.
“The airport is safe because the volcanic ash head to the west,” said airport operator Angkasa Pura I (AP I) spokesman Arie Ahsanurrohim today at Denpasar.
According to him, the flights remain on schedule and operate normally even though the eruption reaches 3,142 meters above sea levels.
The Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) recorded the column ash of Mount Agung eruption reached some 2,000 meters above the mountain peak at 06:19 local times.
“We see that the grey, heavy column ash moves to the west. The seismograph records the eruption with maximum amplitude at 18mm for 3 minutes 47 seconds,” said PVMBG head Kasbani.
Kasbani explained the eruption occurred at 06:41 and 06:55 local times with ash column reached approximately at 1,000 meters and 700 meters, respectively. Both eruptions also tend to head the west with the amplitude 18 mm and that each duration were 2 minutes 11 seconds and 2 minutes 38 seconds.
Mount Agung is now at Alert Status Level III. The public and tourists are suggested to stay away within 4 kilometers of the mountain crater.
