TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Gallup Law and Order report recently released its latest worldwide research on the ten safest countries in 2018. From the list of countries in the report`s top ten, Indonesia ranked ninth.
Ranked first as the safest country based on the people’s feedback is Singapore, while Norway and Iceland were respectively ranked second and third.
Finland and Uzbekistan completed the top five. Meanwhile, ranked sixth is Hong Kong followed by Switzerland, Canada, Indonesia, and Denmark to complete the top ten list.
The poll involved 150,000 adults from 142 countries in the world where they were asked various questions such as whether if they ‘feel safe walking alone at night where they live’ as one of the many indicators to consider the level of safeness.
Respondents were also asked about having confidence with their local police, whether respondents had been the victims of theft in the past year.
However, the popularity of Indonesia’s tourist destinations among international travelers may have also contributed to Indonesia’s ranking in Gallup’s poll. The Lonely Planet stated that Indonesia in the eyes of the international community has managed to attract people with its 10 New Balis concept.
“Indonesia is encouraging you to visit the ten new destinations it has dubbed the 'new Balis'," wrote Andrea Smith in one of the Lonely Planet's articles.
