TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Horticulture of the Agriculture Ministry Suwandi, said that the price of chili pepper one day after Eid Al-Fitr is still stable. Suwandi asserted that the stable price was the result of a high supply of chilli from a number of chilli production centers.
"Based on our supervision, market activity on the day before Eid Al-Fitr and one day before Eid Al-Fitr is not crowded. Meanwhile, production is ample, even tends to increase. That is why chilli price is stable and almost not moving," Suwandi said during a visit to a chilli production center in Magelang, Central Java on Saturday, June 16, 2018.
Suwandi explained that based on supervision one day after Eid Al-Fitr in markets in Jakarta, such as Kebayoran Lama Market, Rumput Market, Cijantung Market, and West Tomang Market, chilli is sold at IDR 38,000 to IDR 44,000 per kilogram. Meanwhile, last year on the same period, chilli price was recorded at IDR 52,400 per kilogram.
In addition, Suwandi explained that shallot supply is currently abundant because of the harvest in the largest shallot production center in Indonesia, which is Brebes Regency. Suwandi stated that on June 2018, at least more than 3,300 hectares of shallot has been harvested in Brebes.
"In July 2018, the harvest is predicted to cover 4,600 hectares. So we ensured that supply and price of shallot until one day after Eid Al-Fitr is very stable," Suwandi said.
In addition to Brebes, shallot production center in East Java has also entered harvest period. The same condition also occurred in shallot production center in Sumbawa and Bima in West Nusa Tenggara.
