TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Kapitra Ampera, Attorney of the Leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Rizieq Shihab, said that he will soon meet with his client. The meeting is related to the news on the issuance of an Investigation Termination Letter (SP3) on the pornographic chat case involving Rizieq.
Kapitra said that he is currently in a country close to Saudi Arabia in preparation to meet with Rizieq. However, he refused to provide more information on his whereabouts. “Well, in a country close to [Saudi Arabia]," Kapitra said to Tempo on Saturday, June 16, 2018.
News that the police had terminated their investigation went viral after Rizieq's lawyer Kapitra Ampera posted the information on his Instagram account.
Kapitra said the police have sent a Letter of Investigation Termination (SP3) for the pornography charges against his client. He said that the letter was the police's Eid el-Fitr present for Rizieq and his friend Firza Husein, who is also implicated in the case.
The case began when an audio recording, a transcript and excerpts of a Whatsapp chat were posted online, containing a conversation between Rizieq and Firza. The Anti-pornography Student Alliance then brought the document to the police to charge the FPI leader on January 30, 2017.
Rizieq and Firza were named suspects in violation of the Anti-pornography law.
Before he was prosecuted as a suspect, Rizieq went to Saudi Arabia for the umra pilgrimage. He never returned to Indonesia despite repeatedly saying that he would. In Saudi, Rizieq met with politicians including Prabowo Subianto and Amien Rais.
