TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 5.6 Richter scale earthquake hits Papua at 07:57 AM Western Indonesia Time, or at 9:57 local time. "No potential for tsunami," said Hary Djatmiko, spokesman for the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Friday, June 15, 2018.
Hary added that the epicenter of the earthquake was at located 206 kilometers away from Jayapura with a depth of 10 kilometers.
The closest areas affected by the earthquake are Sarmi sub-district and Central Memberamo sub-district, each located 63 kilometers and 83 kilometers away from the epicenter.
Previously, an earthquake occurred in North Maluku at 02:46 AM Western Indonesia Time. BMKG said that the quake was registered at 5 Richter scale with a depth of 10 kilometers. The earthquake also does not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
