TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the National Police Gen, Tito Karnavian assured that the celebration of Eid Al-Fitr eve and the Eid Al-Fitr prayer this year will run smoothly across Indonesia. Tito conveyed his statement after conducting Eid prayer at the Al-Ikhlas Mosque in the National Police Headquarter on Friday, June 15, 2018.
"Eid prayer, according to my supervision, is safe and smooth in all regions, there is no significant incidents. Eid eve celebration also went safely," Tito stated. The Police had paid special attention during Eid eve celebration based on the consideration that in the previous years, there are occurrences of mass fights or other security disruptions.
In addition to Eid prayer and Eid eve, Tito said that the Police continue to take efforts in reducing the number of road accidents during the homecoming period. Therefore, Tito said police will render warning or take preventive actions against road users using pickup trucks and motorcycles with excessive loads.
"We will warn [road users] if the condition can be dangerous for their own safety. Although we cannot generalize because we understand that some middle to lower-class people is using their private vehicles," Tito said.
Therefore, Tito said, the Police can only encourage homecomers to make the journey to their hometown using public transportation for safety reasons. Tito also told homecomers using motorcycles to obey the rules.
Meanwhile, to his subordinates, Tito said that they should be smart in observing the developing situation. "If [officers] saw a dangerous situation, please take necessary actions – including legal actions – starting from persuasive, to coercive actions. Every member of the police has their own discretion to assess the situation in the field." Tito said.
