TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Sulawesi Regional Police have named DK, the owner and captain of Arista boat that sunk in Makassar Strait, South Sulawesi as a suspect in the incident. "We have detained the captain," said Chief of Public Relation of the South Sulawesi Police Sr. Commr. Dicky Sondani.
DK was alleged for neglecting the boat’s standard operating procedure. "The boat was not a passenger boat, but a fishing boat," Dicky added.
Moreover, investigators claimed that DK does not own proper registration documents for the boat. DK will be charged with Article 302 (3) of Law No. 17 of 2008 on Shipping with possible sanction of 10 years of imprisonment.
KM Arista sunk on Wednesday, June 13 at 12:45 PM in Gusung waters. The boat was transporting dozens of passengers and was heading for Barrang Lompo Island from Paotere Port. The ship sunk after it was hit by waves.
