TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar, urged residents conducting homecoming journey not to litter on the side of the road. Siti explained that she understands that traffic jams had caused fatigue and many homecomers decided to take a rest on the side of the read.
"We understand that there are traffic jams, but hoped that on the way back to Jakarta, please mind the garbage, don’t throw them on the side of the road," Siti said during an inspection of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road on Wednesday June 13, 2018.
Previously, Minister Siti and the Director General for the Garbage and Waste Management, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati, conducted a field inspection on garbage management during the homecoming period. Minister Siti and officials of the Forestry and Environmental Ministry made a visit to the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road and a number of rest areas along the toll road.
Siti stated that her and her team noticed that garbage can be found along the toll road. Siti added that the trashes were seen after the traffic jam on Tuesday night, June 13, 2018.
"The garbage was mostly plastic bags and food wrappings," Siti said.
She also said that her team planned on studying the behavior of homecomers to determine future actions to manage the trash problem. The Forestry and Environmental Ministry itself had requested assistance from the Public Works Ministry to help monitor the toll road.
