TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The National Police say they are keeping an eye on the movement of suspected terrorist network during the Eid homecoming season to avert possible terror attacks ahead of the Eid day.

“Of course we will continue the monitoring, like other homecomers, the movement of the terrorist network that will also do the homecoming, will also be monitored,” National Police Deputy Chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin said at the Gambir train station in Jakarta on Monday, June 11.

Syafruddin said it was possible that suspected terrorists would take part in the year's homecoming. He, however, said there would be no act of terror on the Eid day.

Syafruddin also appealed to the community to remain calm in celebrating Eid, as the police have deployed some 177,000 personnel to secure the homecoming season. The police have also set up 3,097 handling posts, 1,112 service posts, and 7 integrated posts.

Earlier, National Police public relation chief Insp. Gen. Setyo Wasisto said the police had obtained information from the investigation into 96 suspected terrorists from the Mako Brimob riot on possible terror plots during Ramadan and the homecoming period.

Setyo, however, balked at detaling the information, saying investigation into the matter was still afoot.

"As mentioned, the group considers Ramadan as the most appropriate time to act, because they believe the reward will be doubled," he said.
