TEMPO.CO, Palembang - South Sumatra Police Chief Insp. Gen. Zulkarnain Adinegara said his office had mapped the crime-prone areas on the eastern and central of Trans-Sumatran highway for the 2018 homecoming season. To secure the homecomers from the perpetrators of crime, the police deploy snipers.

“I have prepared special snipers in the robbery-prone area in eastern and central lane,” said Zulkarnain in Palembang, Friday, June 8.

He said, for the eastern lane, the robbery-prone areas are around Mesuji in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency and around the border area with Jambi Province. In the central area are Martapura and Gunawang, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur (OKUT). As well as along the state roads in Empat Lawang, Lahat, and North Musi Rawas (Muratara) districts.

In these crime-prone areas, the police have built eleven posts and spread dozens of snipers.

According to Zulkarnain, the snipers' placement is done because the crime in the streets tends to increase during Eid holiday. The perpetrators take advantage of the riders who are not familiar with the roads.

Zulkarnain said the police would also hold the Musi Ketupat Operation on June 6 to 24. A total of 7,890 Police personnel are deployed at the post. Some 1,890 provincial and district health service officers are also deployed 1x24 hours in each post during Musi Ketupat Operation.

Meanwhile, South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin said, currently, at least 88 security posts scattered throughout South Sumatra. Not only guarded by the police, the security posts are also guarded by the military and civilian personnel.
