Jakarta, BNPT to Handle City`s 40 Mosques Breeding Radicalism

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the recent finding of 40 Mosques that had proven to spread radicalism, Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno stated that the Jakarta provincial government will handle the issue by forming a partnership with the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT).
“A partnership with BNPT must be conducted. We will continue to exchange information since we will be holding the 2018 Asian Games. We must make sure that there is no place for radicalism to strive,” said Sandiaga Uno at the KH Hasyim Asyari Mosque in West Jakarta yesterday.
He further explained that Mosques must become a means to develop oneself rather than being a place that spreads radical ideas.
“We should take this opportunity to educate them,” he said, “We must make sure that Mosques continue to become a source of light from a peaceful Islam, that’s what we want.”
Previous reports state that 40 Mosques in Indonesia’s capital are indicated to breed radicalism. Sandiaga Uno, who was reluctant to reveal the locations of these Mosques, claims that he had informed President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) upon the details of the Mosques in question.
