TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir will gather all the rectors of Indonesian universities to discuss radicalism in campus.
“On June 25, I will gather all the rectors of state universities across Indonesia to handle radicalism in campus,” Nasir said when met at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 6.
The National Agency for Counter-Terrorism (BNPT) indicates that all universities in Java and Sulawesi are exposed to religious-based radicalism despite the degree of radicalism exposure of each campus is different.
The findings by BNPT are in line with a survey of the State Intelligence Agency released last April. Of the 20 universities surveyed in 15 provinces during 2017, as much as 39 percents of students are antidemocratic and disagree if Pancasila became the foundation of Indonesia.
According to BNPT Director-General for Prevention Brig. Gen. Hamli, the data is an accumulation of the exposure of radicalism to campus since 30 years ago.
Besides the University of Indonesia, Bandung Institute of Technology, and UIN Alauddin, the most severe campus exposure to radicalism is the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB). It is the home of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia that was born in 1982.
Nasir said he had come directly to IPB and asked for the data related to the radicalism but there was no result. “So that's still an indication. On the June 25, I will gather all the rectors,” he said.
