TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla lead the groundbreaking ceremony of Indonesia International Islamic University (UIII) in RRI courtyeard, Cimanggis, Depok, West Java on Tuesday, June 5.

“In the name of Allah, today I officially start the construction of Indonesia International Islamic University,” said Jokowi in his speech.

Jokowi said UIII will be a center for Islamic studies and research in Indonesia as the country is home for the largest Muslim community in the world. Thus, Indonesia can be a world reference for the development of Islamic civilization.

In the area of 142.5 hectares of RRI complex, Cimanggis, the campus will open post-graduate and doctoral programs with seven faculties such as Islamic studies, social sciences, humanities study, Islamic economy, architecture, arts, as well as science and technology.

According to Jokowi, the total funds for the construction reached Rp3.5 trillion and this year, Rp700 billion was earmarked to start the project. “We expected the total completion, insha Allah, will be in four years. But next year, we can utilize the campus for one to three subjects that we had prepared,” he added.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla, meanwhile, stated the construction of Indonesia International Islamic University (UIII) will commence in 2018 funded by the State Budget and global contributions.
