TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 4.4 Magnitude tectonic earthquake hits Sukabumi, West Java, today at 03:15 a.m, Saturday, May 26. The earthquake shook several areas in Sukabumi such as Pelabuhan Ratu, Sagaranten and Cisaat, the locals reported.
“There is no damage report after the earthquake,” said the spokesman of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Harry Djatmiko on his written statement today.
Harry stated the intensity scale is II SIG-BMKG. It can be felt by the locals but caused no damage.

Harry claimed that the epicenter of the quake was at 30 kilometers southwest of Sukabumi, and the hypocenter was at a depth of 6 kilometers. He also explained BMKG’s shakemap that shows the weak impact of the quake. “From the hypocenter, we know it’s shallow because of local faults.”
Based on the observations, BMKG stated that there will be no aftershock and urged people to remain calm.
