TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The House of Representatives held a plenary meeting to ratify the bill on the amendment to Law No 15 Year 2003 on the Ratification of the Government Regulation in lieu of Law No. 1 Year 2002 on Terrorism Eradication, or Anti-terrorism Bill, at the House building in Jakarta on Friday, May 25, 2018.

The meeting, which was presided over by House deputy speaker Agus Hermanto, announced the bill was eligible to become a law. “We would like to thank and express our appreciation to the Law and Human Rights Minister and his staffers, and also to the special committee head, and the House sec-gen for working on this bill,” said Agus.

The bill is finally ratified after prolonged deliberations since 2016.

On the occasion, Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly thanked the House for its sound cooperation with the government in ratifying the bill.

“The bill will be ratified as a law. After it is signed by the president and sent to the House in compliance with the law mechanism, then we will make the bill a law, and it will take effect,” Yasonna said after the meeting.

House speaker Bambang Soesatyo, meanwhile, called on the government to do its best in implementing the law in line with the agreed upon amendment.

“The ratification of this law means the ball is now in the government’s side, and today we will send a letter to the government to immediately ratify the bill, so if something happens in the future the House won’t become a scapegoat again,” he said.
