TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Newly-elected Bank Indonesia (BI) governor Perry Warjiyo said Indonesia`s economy cannot grow 5.3 percent this year. Perry projects the economic growth rate for 2018 at 5.2 percent.

"Of course, we want higher growth. But there are several aspects that cannot support our economy to grow 5.3 percent this year," Perry said after his inauguration in Jakarta, Thursday, May 24.

Perry did not say what those aspects were, but remarked that—overall—Indonesia's economy is growing at a fine rate; better than other countries.

The Central Statistics Agency recorded Q1/2018 growth at 5.06 percent (yoy), inching up from last year's 5.01 percent.

Perry said he will promote monetary policies that benefit and maintain financial stability. He plans to helm BI in securing the stability of economic fundamentals; particularly inflation and the exchange rate.
