TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) economist Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara mentioned there are five tasks of Perry Warjiyo as the newly sworn Bank Indonesia Governor.

First, maintain the stability of Rupiah exchange rate. “BI Governor should concern the late response of BI previously in adjusting the interest rate,” said Bhima in a phone interview with Tempo, on Thursday, May 24.

According to Bhima, Perry could increase the interest rate at 25 bps should Rupiah is still suppressed until June 2018 or consistent to intervene the foreign exchange reserves.

Second, keep down the inflation rate with various regulations and coordination inter-stakeholders. One of the ways is by strengthening the coordination of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID). Bhima also touched on, the government should actively secure the food stock and price.

“Because volatile food is the biggest component that affected the inflation, especially during Ramadan and homecoming season,” said Bhima.

Fifth, build a safe, efficient payment system. Bhima noted Perry should be careful in implementing National Payment Gateway (GPN) which recently released on Thursday, May 3. Perry should measure the company’s switching in a bid to secure the data and transaction of the bank’s client.

“Don’t let the public and the bank being difficult in switching the old debit or credit card into a new card with GPN logo,” Bhima explained regarding the tasks Perry Warjiyo might bear as the new governor of Bank Indonesia.
