TEMPO.CO, Palembang - Train set of light rail transit or LRT in Palembang, South Sumatra successfully tested on Monday night, May 21. South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin explained the test was one of the important parts of the operational process for the first light train in Indonesia.
After tested the short distance, in no time, the train set will be tested with longer distance. “Last night we have successfully tested from end to end,” said Alex on Tuesday, May 22.
According to Alex, Palembang LRT used the latest technology. Besides, the train uses an electrical energy source that is safer and the looks more eye catchy compared to the existing electrical train. South Sumatera LRT, said Alex, did not take electric energy from the cable above the rail, but from under, so it will not disturb the sight.

Furthermore, Alex continued, the train set will be tested periodically until fully run in the beginning of June. In this phase, every defected will be polished by the team, so, when the train officially carries the passenger, there will be no more problem. “Meanwhile, the ticket fare is in finalization phase,” he added.
The Commitment Officer of South Sumatra LRT, Suranto, explained that the dynamic test of train set ran from depo in Jakabaring to OPI mall station as far as 800 meters. The dynamic test was deliberately done in private to keep the safety of the officer and the monitoring team since the LRT were using high voltage electricity at around 500 amperes.
