TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry has tried to design Kertajati airport, Majalengka as a departure place for home-comers during Eid al-Fitr holiday or Lebaran this year. Minister Budi Karya Sumadi stated the international airport was scheduled to hold a historical landing on May 24, 2018.
“God willing, we attempt to utilize [the airport] during homecoming from several cities. [State airline operator] AP II currently working on it,” said Minister Budi in Swadaya University in Gunung Jati, Cirebon yesterday.
The construction progress for the air side has been completed, including the runway, apron, taxiway, and air traffic control (ATC). As for the land side, 95 percent completion has been done per April 24.
Earlier, Transportation Ministry offered a number of routes from six cities namely Medan, Surabaya, Denpasar, Makassar, and Samarinda or Balikpapan to several airlines.
Transportation Ministry’s Directorate General of Air Transportation would then announce the route and airline to be operational in Kertajati international airport, Majalengka, West Java.
