TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi to strengthen the security at railway stations during Eid holidays this year after the recent series of bomb terrors. The major train stations that serve long-distance trip will be required to increase its security by installing X-Ray machines and metal detectors.
“I think not only X-Ray but also metal detector," said Budi Karya Sumadi Friday, May 18.
Currently, the major railway stations such as Gambir, Jatinegara and Pasar Senen in Jakarta, Tugu, Jogjakarta, and Tawang Stations in Semarang, have no x-ray machine and metal detector to strengthen the security for passengers.
Sylke Febrina (27) who works in a private company in Jakarta admitted that she had never seen an X-ray machine and metal detector at Gambir Station in mid-April 2018 when she traveled to Jogjakarta.
"I saw no X-Ray machine in April," she said. Sylke said that if the security at major train stations could be improved, it would make passengers' trips to be safer and more comfortable.
Meanwhile, an employee at a printed media David Eka Issetiabudi who often travel by train through Gambir Station revealed that the security at major stations was often minimal. The last time David traveled was in early May through Gambir Station and he said he had not seen the X-Ray machine.
"It's supposed to be a security standard at such a big station, it's for security too," he said in response to a major station's mandatory plan to increase security in anticipation of bomb terror.
