Gov`t Holds Special Meeting to Discuss Counterterrorism Efforts

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto held a special coordination meeting to discuss counterterrorism efforts. The meeting took place on Friday, May 18, and was attended by a number of officials at the ministerial level.
Based on Tempo’s observation, attending the meeting were National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian, National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) head Djoko Setiadi, and National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) head Suhardi Alius.

Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara was also seen at the meeting along with by Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto.
Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifudin, Social Minister Idrus Marham, Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, and Attorney General Prasetyo also attended the meeting.
The special meeting was held following a series of terrorist attacks in several regions over the last week. The first attack occurred at the National Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters at Kelapa Dua, Depok, on May 8-9. Five police officers and one terrorist inmate died during a prison riot.
