News of Online Ojek Driver Accused as ISIS Member is a Hoax

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian online transport service association (PPTJDI) Head Igun Wicaksono demanded the police investigate a false news or hoax saying the involvement of online ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“The hoax spreader is disadvantaging us,” said Igun in a written statement received by Tempo, on Wednesday, May 16.

The hoax said that online ojek drivers pledged allegiance to ISIS group and contaminated the food orders.

Igun explained an information has been circulated in the delivery app noting a customer’s experience who ordered foods allegedly added with poison by the online ojek driver because one of the customer's family members has been rushed to a hospital which made the driver suspected to be ISIS member.

Igun stated the information is a hoax. National Police Spokesman Setyo Wasisto also delivered the same statement.

Aside from disadvantaging in material, such information would spark public uproar and Igun hoped there is no party believes in the information. “We expected the public and online ojek drivers to not be provoked by such false news,” he said.
