TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - The Police Headquarters in Riau had been attacked by several people suspected to be terrorists this morning. Reports state that police managed to neutralize the two men that posed the threat.

At roughly around 08:50 am, two men wearing head covers and armed with a sword resembling a katana sword exited a white Toyota Avanza minivan after the car barged into the police headquarters’ front gates.

“Suddenly there were shots fired,” said eyewitness Madi, a stringer for television station MNC Tv, who was at the location during the attack. Chaos erupted not long after; “People shouted terror, terror,” said Madi.

The attack happened right after the police held a press release upon foiling a drug transaction involving 29 kilograms of crystal meth that took place in Indragiri Hilir. Madi, together with a Tv One stringer, Rian Rahman, immediately ran for safety through the side gates that leads to Gajah Mada Street.

While the two journalists were running away from the scene, the car that was driven by the suspected terrorists attempted to flee the scene through the front gates again but lost control and ended up hitting both journalists who suffered injuries.

“Rian is being taken to the hospital,” said Madi.

According to reports, the streets in the vicinity of the Riau police headquarters is currently being sterilized by police following the suspected terror attack.
