1. Facebook
Social media giant Facebook was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with his friends from Harvard University. The active users have reached more than 88 million per month and would likely continue to increase. As of date, the app has been downloaded 1 billion times via Play Store.
2. WhatsApp
Throughout 2015, WhatsApp announced it has more than 900 million active users worldwide. This application that can be used in various operating systems such as Android, BlackBerry, iOS and others currently has been downloaded by 1 billion people. This free app uses an Internet connection.
3. Instagram
Instagram is a photo and video sharing app that has been downloaded 1 billion times. This application is one of the most frequently used by Indonesian people, more than 45 million users. Indonesia is also named as the largest Instagram Story creator in the global.
4. LINE
Line is one of the most widely used messaging apps. This application has been downloaded by approximately 500 million people. Released in 2011, Line was ranked first in the free app category in 42 countries, including Japan, Taiwan, Spain, and Russia among others.
The application was developed by LINE Corporation and already used by around 200 million MAU (monthly active users) in 230 countries worldwide. The application can be used to send text messages, pictures, video, and voice messages.
5. Twitter
Twitter is a social networking service application that allows its users to create mini-blogs with a length of 280 characters per post. Twitter has been downloaded by over 500 million people via PlayStore. Twitter users in Indonesia amounted to some 19 million people, the third largest users in the world with 1 billion tweets post. The first place is America with 3.7 billion tweets followed by Japan with 1.3 tweets.
6. Blackberry Messenger
Blackberry Messenger or BBM is an instant messenger application developed by Blackberry Limited. This application has been downloaded by some 100 million people.
BBM had become a public limelight messaging application in the past few years, especially when this app is officially used for cross-platform iOS. However, the user gradually moved to a similar application, WhatsApp.
