TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A large size knitwork with the under the sea visualization created by an artist from Bandung, Mulyana, will be the commission work in ARTJOG 2018, on May 4 to June 4.
Mulyana created a series of coral-shaped knitwork and colorful coral reefs using 5,000 rolls of yarn. He involved 70 Sorogenen women knitter. The giant knitting will be attached to the whale-shaped frame.
There is also knitwork of fishes similar to the form of an atomic bomb explosion. The whale-shaped skeleton symbolizes death, said Mulyana
Through the work, Mulyana wants to invite people to explore something deeper. "My work speaks the contradiction of beauty and fear," Mulyana said on the sidelines of an ARTJOG press conference at Artotel Yogyakarta, Thursday, April 26.
The theme of the art event is Enlightenment, which means to drive the darkness into the light.
Similar to last year, this time, ARTJOG involves two curators, namely Bambang 'Toko' Witjaksono and Ignatia Nilu.
Bambang ‘Toko’ said there are 54 artists taking part in the event with various artworks such as installation, painting, video, and statue. Some names are familiar to ARTJOG event, namely Eko Nugroho, Handiwirman, Heri Dono, and Nasirun.
