Jusuf Kalla Quipped about Negative Sentiment on Foreign Workers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) quipped about members of the public who often dispute on the existence of foreign workers (TKA) upon the issuance of President`s Decree on foreign workers.
“Two million Indonesians work in Malaysia. A few [Foreign workers] enter Indonesia and there’s an uproar,” Kalla said today, April 24, adding that many Indonesians seek jobs abroad.

Furthermore, JK explained that the presence of foreign workers in Indonesia is meant to improve Indonesia’s economy through investments, capital funds, and skill. Jusuf Kalla asserted that the foreign workers entering the country are mostly the ones that have specific skills.
The Vice President said that one foreign worker is able to open 100 new job opportunities for domestic workers. He added that the President’s Decree is exclusively aimed to ease foreigners’ permit grants.
“These foreign workers are not here to take our jobs, but they are here to create job opportunities,” said Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
