Setya Novanto Ready to Face Verdict Trial Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Setya Novanto’s lawyer Maqdir Ismail said his client is in a good state and ready to attend the verdict trial on the electronic ID card (e-KTP) graft case today, April 24 in Jakarta corruption court, Central Jakarta.

“As far as I know, he [Setya] is fine,” said Maqdir via a short message, Monday, April 23.

Maqdir claimed Setya did not make any preparation to undergo the trial and they are ready to hear the verdict issued by the judge.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Febri Diansyah also confirmed the defendant’s condition. “Since yesterday up to today, Setya looks fine. He eats well,” said Febri, Monday, April 23.

Earlier, the KPK prosecutors demanded Setya Novanto a 16-year jail term and a fine of Rp1 billion that can be replaced with six months of detainment for his involvement in the e-KTP graft case.

Furthermore, Setya Novanto is also ordered to hand in the bribe he allegedly received worth US$7.435 million minus Rp5 billion which have to be paid at least one month after the verdict issued. Prosecutors also demanded Setya to be revoked of all political rights until five years after his sentence is served.
