TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of Operations Bureau of the East Java Police Sr. Comr. Djoko Djohartono stated that the cyber patrol team has found 7,265 provocative contents on social media throughout 2018. As many as 2.426 contents were spread through online media, 2.926 contents were spread through Facebook, 1,158 contents were spread on Twitter, 777 contents on Instagram, 7 on Youtube, and 1 provocative content was spread on Google+.
Djoko said that provocation often increase in numbers ahead of regional heads election. The content materials were based on fake news, hate speech regarding issues about ethnicity, religion, and race (SARA), and defaming a certain candidate.
Despite thousands of provocative issues discovered, the East Java Police has yet to arrest the perpetrator or blocked the account. Djoko said that the police can only make a move if the public file a report.
"However, if the content is likely to harm [the election], we immediately take action," Djoko asserted.
Furthermore, Djoko added that the cyber police team has posted a disclaimer of opinion against the provocative contents by embedding it with a red stamp cited HOAX and then explaining the truth by presenting a valid data.
