TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) opened the 2018 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) at the Jiexpo in Kemayoran, Jakarta, today, April 19.

“This year’s IIMS carries the support and commitment towards electric powered vehicles. Clearly, this shows that the organizers fully understand that the industrial revolution 4.0 is heading towards the automotive sector too,” said the president in the 2018 IIMS opening.

Jokowi wore a white shirt during the speech. The president then layered the shirt with the renowned denim jacket he wore during a visit to Sukabumi several weeks ago once he took to the exhibition floor and visited the numerous booths there.

Wearing his denim jacket and black sneakers, the president’s looks was a stark contrast compared to the Minister of Industry Airlangga and State Secretary Minister Pratikno who accompanied Jokowi throughout the exhibition area.

Jokowi also took time to pay a visit to the Kickass Chopper booth, which is now known as the custom garage that built the president’s motorcycle used in the Sukabumi motorcycle tour.

The denim jacket that Jokowi wore had previously sparked a few debates on the design elements featured in the jacket. The jacket had an Indonesian map drawn across the chest area but was perceived by some to be a symbol of divided Indonesia when Jokowi unzips his jacket.
