TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Rinjani area in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has been officially recognized as part of the world-class geopark.
The decision was announced at the UNESCO Executive Board meeting in Paris, France, on Thursday, April 12, 2018.
In relation to the official recognition, Mount Rinjani will host the Asia-Pacific Geopark Network Symposium in 2019.
In the event, a number of people from various countries will come to Lombok to witness the uniqueness of the famous mountain with the seven 'peak of sorrows'.
Before or after visiting Mount Rinjani, tourists can also visit other tourist attractions in Lombok.
The following locations are situated not far from Mount Rinjani area.
1. Sembalun Village
Sembalun is a village located at the foot of Mount Rinjani. Like a village above the clouds, the village is constantly shrouded in fog. The cold temperature will also immediately greet tourists arriving in the village.
Sembalun is like a basin surrounded by layered mountains. Tourists can watch the sun rises and sets behind the rows of mountains.
Heading to Sembalun, tourists will find a path called Pusuk Sembalun, on observation post located on a hill where tourists can see Sembalun Village.
Sembalun Village is 12 kilometers away from Sembalun Lawang also known as the entrance of Mount Rinjani. Sembalun is located90 kilometers away from Mataram.
2. Selong Hill
Selong Hill is a hill located in Sembalun Village, precisely in Sembalun Lawang, the entrance to the Mount Rinjani. The distance is 90 km from the Mataram city.
From the top of Selong Hill, tourists can watch rice fields surrounded by mountains.
3. Sade Village, Sasak Traditional Village
The Sasak Traditional Village is located less than 2 kilometers from the airport and is only10 minutes away by car.
Tourists will see the original life of the Sasak tribe. The tribe lives in a settlement with uniform houses. Tourists can visit the houses that form the staircase between one house and another.
