TEMPO.CO, Mimika - Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng, requested President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's help to speed up the construction of Mozes Kilangin Airport. Omaleng hoped that the airport facilities can be completed in accordance with the predetermined deadline.

"We ask President Jokowi's full support for the construction of the Timika Airport terminal passenger facility to be completed on time so that in 2019, it can be inaugurated and operated," said Omaleng on Friday, April 13, 2018.

The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Air Transportation with the Mimika Administration continues to hasten the construction of a passenger terminal facility on the south side of Mozes Kilangin Airport. The two-and-a-half-floors, 42-square-meter passenger terminal facility is constructed each with a building volume of 21,000 square meters.

Upon his arrival at Mozes Kilangin Airport, shortly before departing to Agats, Asmat, last Thursday, President Jokowi took a moment to look at the building from the airport terminal. The airport is still in the stage of steel frame and roof installation work.

President Jokowi praised the courage of Mimika Administration to allocate big enough budget to finish the construction apart from the source of APBN fund.

"[Jokowi] asked us about when will the construction of the terminal passenger can be completed, I say, if there is no financial trouble, it should be inaugurated next year," said Omaleng.

Omaleng also hopes that President Jokowi will inaugurate the terminal facility for Timika airport passengers. It is a hub airport to supply basic needs for people in nine districts in the interior of Papua.
