TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Justice and Unity Party [PKPI] sec-gen Imam Anshori announced the party was poised to throw its weight behind President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in 2019 presidential race.
Imam made the announcement after the General Elections Commission [KPU] granted the party’s petition to contest in the 2019 legislative election bearing the number 20.
Imam said the party had been keeping an eye on President Jokowi’s work in the past three years prior to making the decision. “We will not alter our decision,” he told Tempo on Friday, April 13, 2018.
Imam explained the party had decided to support Jokowi since July last year. According to him, Jokowi’s achievements were evident in the country’s infrastructure development. “Jokowi’s track record is obvious, unlike other candidates,” he said. “We think there is no better candidate than Jokowi.”

Imam augured Jokowi would have another head-to-head against Great Indonesia Movement [Gerindra] Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto as in the last presidential election.
Imam went on to say Jokowi would be more powerful in the 2019 presidential election as the public had already witnessed the direction of his development plans. “At that time, he [Jokowi] was bereft of work results and still won, and now the results are evident. So he will win,” he said.
Imam added all that Jokowi should do if he were re-elected was proceed with his development plans that had already gone well. Imam was also upbeat that Jokowi would again be the country’s helmsman for 2019-2024.
The General Elections Commission [KPU] announced Friday that PKPI was the 20th contestant in the 2019 legislative election following of a South Jakarta District Court’s ruling that granted the party’s petition to contest the election on Wednesday, April 11.
