TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia was sued by one of its passengers B.R.A. Koosmariam Djatikusumo, who was splashed by hot water when the airline's stewardess served in-flight meals, causing a permanent scar. The lawsuit has registered in Central Jakarta District Court.

"Lawsuit No. 215/PDT.G/2018/PN.JKT.PST dated December 29, 2017," said Koosmariam’s lawyer David Tobing in a phone call on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

Koosmariam submitted the lawsuit through his lawyer with damages mounting up to IDR 1,2 billion and IDR 10 billion for material losses and immaterial losses, respectively.

David explained that his client has to bear the pain for an hour before the aircraft landed. In addition, the distance of the airport and the hospital is an hour away.

"Inside the aircraft, Koosmariam did not get the medicine and proper treatment from Garuda Indonesia," said David.

Garuda Indonesia Corporate Secretary Hengki Heriandono claimed that the incident was an unintentional action and the stewardess had administered first aid.

"As soon as the aircraft landed, our officers brought him for further examination and provide treatment in a hospital in Banyuwangi," said Hengki.

According to Hengki, Garuda Indonesia has issued an official apology, facilitated and covered the treatment cost in Jakarta. However, David admitted the fund was not sufficient for total healing treatment for 1,5 months and the company has yet to contact the injured passenger.
