Mampang-Kuningan Underpass starts its first trial today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mampang-Kuningan underpass is finally opened for public starting today, Wednesday, April 11. In its first day trial, traffic congestion still occurs at both locations.

The heavy traffic is monitored in Jl. Gatot Subroto, in front of Balai Kartini, towards Mampang-Kuningan intersection due to many vehicles lining to exit from Jl. Denpasar Selatan in the left side of Balai Kartini.

Kuningan underpass connected two areas from Mampang Tendean intersection until Mampang Kuningan intersection. Both areas are known for its common congestion since the roads connecting Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jl. Rasuna Said, and Jl. Kapten Tendean.

During the test trial, Jakarta Transportation Agency creates a traffic engineering in Kuningan intersection by closing Kuningan flyover except for Transjakarta bus passing from Semanggi to Pancoran and vice versa.

Another traffic density is seen in Jl. Terusan Rasuna Said from Senopati or Kapten Tendean towards Mampang Kuningan intersection since vehicles cannot enter the new underpass built in front of Mampang Market.

However, the congestion in Mampang Kuningan intersection has been reduced in general. “This morning, the traffic is more smooth. We will see later in the evening when people off from work,” said the police officer Uhud.

Mampang-Kuningan underpass was constructed along 850 meters on November 18, 2016, under the leadership of former governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok. The project was completed in April 2018, 3.5 months more from the target set.
