Ethiopian Airlines to Serve Flights between Addis Ababa, Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ethiopian Airlines plans to serve flights between Addis Ababa and Jakarta via Bangkok. To prepare the route, Ethiopian Airlines signed a partnership with Garuda Maintenance Facility AeroAsia (GMF AeroAsia) for aircraft maintenance.

Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde Gebremariam said the company is waiting to get a flight slot from the Transportation Ministry. Once they do, he said that the state airline will immediately prepare the flight schedule.

"Slots are the most important thing and we will finalize once we get it," he said on the sidelines of the Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF) 2018 in Nusa Dua, Bali on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

Ethiopia has opened flights to neighboring ASEAN members Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. The airline also has routes to China and India.

Tewolde said opening flights to Indonesia will open new doors to the Asian market. He said that the Indonesian market is very promising.

The cooperation between Ethiopian Airlines and GMF AeroAsia was signed on the sidelines of IAF 2018. The agreement includes line maintenance service work, ground-handling and technical services.
