TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara said Facebook recently found that CubeYou, a data analysis firm similar to Cambridge Analytica, is involved in its private data breach.
“Another firm adds to the list, I just received the information earlier,” said Rudiantara at the Cyber Tower 2 building in Jakarta last night on Monday, April 9.
Rudiantara immediately ordered his staff to follow up Facebook’s recent finding and look into whether CubeYou had targeted Indonesian Facebook users.
“I ordered [my staff] to confirm this again with [Facebook]. Are there any Indonesians that were targeted by CubeYou,” he said.

As previously reported, one million of Indonesian Facebook users had their private data breached in a scandal that involves political consultant Cambridge Analytica. Meanwhile, it is predicted that there are 87 million worldwide Facebook users compromised by this data breach.
The Communication and Informatics Ministry had sent an official sanction letter to Facebook on April 5 and required Facebook to provide the Indonesian government with the investigation.
“We requested that they report to us if the number of Indonesian users compromised by the breach increases,” said Rudiantara.
The Ministry has also worked with the police institution and considered temporarily shutting down Facebook’s activity in Indonesia if the data breach is officially deemed as a threat to the country.
