TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan is set to begin his active duty after regaining full recovery of his eye, following two operations conducted in Singapore in March 2018.
"I hope after two medical treatments for my eye that I would somewhat regain my eyesight, I will order special glasses for my left eye so I could read again, and then I'll work again," said Novel at his house in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Friday, April 6, 2018.
Novel had stop from actively working as KPK investigator after he was attacked by two men on a motorcycle while he was walking back from a Mosque close to his house. The suspects passed Novel and suddenly sprayed acid to his face one year ago on Tuesday, April 11, 2018.
In order to regain his eyesight, Novel was forced to place an implant in his left eye and had to use a hard lens for his right eye.
However, the acid attack on April 11, 2017, was not the first threat that Novel Baswedan received during his career as a KPK investigator. The following is a list of attacks against Novel during his career in the anti-corruption institution.
1. July 2012
While riding a motorcycle, Novel was hit by a car. The 'accident' happened during the arrest on Buol Regent, Amran Batalipu.
2. October 2012
Several National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) members went to the KPK headquarters in an attempt to arrest Novel for allegations of shooting at a bird nest thief while he was head of Bengkulu's criminal investigation unit in 2004. This took place while Novel was leading the investigation into a corruption case that incriminated Insp. Gen. Djoko Susilo.
3. October 2015
A car that carried Novel Baswedan and several other KPK investigators ended up in a river while they were handling a case linked to the massive e-KTP graft at West Nusa Tenggara.
4. June and August 2016
Novel Baswedan was injured after being struck by a car while he was riding a motorcycle at Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. At the time, Novel was on his way to the KPK headquarters. This incident happened when he was handling the Jakarta Bay reclamation case. He became a victim of hit-and-run again just two months after the first incident.
5. April 2017
