TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 212 brotherhood, Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), and Islamic organizations to continue the planned rally against Sukmawati Soekarnoputri despite the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) have given its clemency. The groups consider Sukmawati's poem to be blasphemous.

FPI and the other organizations demand that Sukmawati should be arrested and imprisoned for her action. “Inshallah (if God wills), it will take place, there are no changes of plans so far,” said Dedy, the spokesman of the rally team on Friday, April 6.

The poem entitled ‘Ibu Indonesia’ was recited by Sukmawati Soekarnoputri at the 29th Anne Avantie Berkarya, during the 2018 Indonesia Fashion Week.

Sukmawati, who is the daughter of Indonesia’s first president Soekarno, had already offered her official public apology and asserted that she did not intend to insult Islam. She also personally apologized to MUI Chairman Maruf Amin as a gesture of apology towards the Muslim community.

However, Dedy said that an apology and legal proceedings are two different things and that Sukmawati must be held legally accountable despite he personally has forgiven Sukmawati Soekarnoputri.

The rally itself is planned to be held outside the National Police’s criminal investigation department (Bareskrim) at Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat, Jakarta. The rally will start at 01:00 pm today.
